Following on the heels of the successful Ganbare Japan concert at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre on April 19, Taiko for Tohoku, the unprecedented collaboration between all of the Metro Vancouver taiko groups (plus independents), was remounted to open the 34th Annual Vancouver Folk Music Festival. The stripped down ensemble (40 drummers as opposed to 60!) performed an energetic set before an enthusiastic mainstage crowd, staving off the threatening rain with their own brand of thunder.

Taiko for Tohoku featured members of Chibi Taiko, Katari Taiko, Sansho Daiko, Sawagi Taiko, Tetsu Taiko and Yuaikai Ryukyu Taiko as well as Boyd Grealy, Eileen Kage & Leslie Komori.

The photos below were taken by Cheryl Lee (Sansho Daiko), Elaine Ginn (Sansho Daiko) and Taiyo Greenaway.
